SPORTS INJURY

Sports injuries affect every athlete at some stage in their career. An athlete with a tight, stressed and unbalanced body will often feel inflexible, have low energy levels, poor sleeping habits, often be in pain and never be far away from injury. These tight and stressed muscles no longer function as a healthy muscle should and so other associated muscles are then forced to compensate for them, causing the body to lose its symmetry and get out of balance. A body in this condition will injure quite easily.

Our massage techniques at BMM work to balance the body and prevent injuries from occurring. If an athlete has sustained an injury we focus on accelerating the healing process.

INJURY PREVENTION

A healthy body has muscles that are supple, flexible and balanced when relaxed, yet firm and strong when contracted. When in this state the body will have good energy levels and circulation, be generally pain free, rarely injure and be able to stand up to a demanding lifestyle. At BMM we use a variety of massage and acupressure techniques as we move around the body to release any contracted or shortened muscles, removing the compensations and bringing the body back into symmetry, to a relaxed supple state. This is essential for an athlete to prevent injury and also to enhance their athletic performance by  improving circulation, which allows the delivery of oxygen and nutrients more efficiently to the muscles during physical activity, and at the same time removes toxins and waste products such as lactic acid.

POST INJURY REHABILITATION

After a soft tissue injury such as a tear, strain or cork other auxiliary muscles step in and tighten up adding strength and securing the injured area to prevent further damage, but this has a negative effect on the healing process. The tightening up of the area restricts the circulation to the injured muscle, largely hampering the efforts of the body’s healing process. Our massage techniques at BMM work to relax these surrounding muscles and calm the injured area , realigning the muscle fibres and opening up the circulation for the healing process to take place quickly and effectively, significantly reducing recovery time.
